The winds are shifting, the mornings are getting cooler, and the galley is calling. Welcome to October at Skipper’s Remedy® ...where fall sailing meets warming spices, comforting cups, and just enough mischief to keep things interesting.
Fall has a special kind of magic on the water. The summer crowds begin to thin, the air takes on a refreshing bite, and those early-morning departures become even more rewarding when there's a hot cup of coffee waiting at the helm.
Whether you're preparing for a fall regatta, enjoying a leisurely weekend sail, or simply dreaming of your next voyage from the comfort of home, this month is all about Sails & Spices: seasonal roasts, cozy galley treats, and beverages that make cooler-weather adventures even better.
So grab a sweater, secure your favorite mug, and let's get underway.
⚓ Meet the Privateer Series: Two Seasonal Brews. One Very Mischievous Crew.
Every crew has a little mischief aboard ...and the Skipper’s Remedy® Privateer Series is no exception.
First to sail into port was Privateer Pumpkin Spice, bringing warm autumn character and a little seasonal swagger to your morning routine. It's the perfect companion for crisp-air adventures, dockside breakfasts, and those mornings when the only thing better than watching the sunrise is watching it with coffee.
But every good autumn adventure deserves a sequel.
As the winds turn cooler and the holiday season appears on the horizon, a new Privateer joins the crew.
🏴☠️ Peppermint Privateer - Peppermint Mocha
Chart a course for holiday mischief with Peppermint Privateer - Peppermint Mocha!
This Medium Roast combines the comforting character of freshly roasted coffee with natural peppermint mocha flavoring for a festive combination of chocolatey richness and cool peppermint character.
It's smooth, spirited, and ready for chilly morning watches, cozy cockpit conversations, or an après-adventure mug back at the dock.
If Privateer Pumpkin Spice is the privateer who raids the spice locker, Peppermint Privateer is the one who sneaks aboard with a treasure chest full of chocolate and a suspiciously large supply of peppermint.
Privateer Pumpkin Spice brought the autumn adventure.
Peppermint Privateer is here to steal the holiday.
Consider your mug officially boarded.
🍂 Fall Regattas Deserve Better Coffee
Cooler weather doesn't mean the sailing season has to slow down. Fall regattas and weekend outings bring their own rewards ...and their own provisioning challenges.
The trick is to prepare for the conditions before casting off.
-
Fuel the early start. Brew your favorite coffee before heading to the marina, or prepare a reliable galley setup for the first watch.
-
Pack for the crew. Single-serving coffee packets are convenient when everyone has a different schedule or when galley space is limited.
-
Bring something warming. A spiced coffee or hot artisan tea can be a welcome treat after a chilly morning on deck.
-
Plan for the return. A post-sail coffee break and a few hearty snacks can turn the end of a regatta into its own little celebration.
A successful day on the water takes planning, teamwork, and a good sense of humor. Great coffee doesn't replace any of those things, but it certainly makes the briefing more enjoyable.
☕ Pro Tips: Brewing Coffee in Brisk Weather
Cold mornings can change the way your coffee brews. A few small adjustments can help keep your cup tasting shipshape.
1. Keep your brewing gear warm
Cold equipment can pull heat from your brewing water. Rinse your French press, pour-over brewer, or mug with hot water before brewing. Just remember to empty the rinse water before adding your coffee.
2. Start with properly heated water
For most hot-brew methods, water around 195-205°F (90-96°C) is a useful starting range. Cooler conditions may make heat management more challenging, so preheating your equipment helps maintain a more consistent brew.
3. Mind your ratios
A good starting point for hot coffee is approximately 1 gram of coffee for every 15-17 grams of water. Adjust the ratio to your preferred strength and brewing method. Keep a little room for experimentation ...your galley, your rules.
4. Protect your coffee from the elements
Stow coffee in a sealed container away from moisture, direct sunlight, and strong odors. On a boat, keeping supplies dry is more than a housekeeping preference. It's good provisioning.
5. Make cleanup part of the plan
Coffee grounds and loose tea leaves belong in an appropriate waste container ...not overboard. Prepare for cleanup before you brew, especially when the boat is moving or the crew is busy.
Skipper's tip: A hot cup is a wonderful companion, but brewing underway requires care. Secure hot water, keep equipment stable, and save more involved brewing for calmer conditions when needed. No cup of coffee is worth a galley burn.
🥧 What Goes With Fall Coffee? Galley Treats, Naturally.
A good seasonal brew deserves a worthy companion. Fortunately, you don't need a fully equipped kitchen to put together a satisfying fall coffee break.
Try these easy pairings:
-
Privateer Pumpkin Spice + apple-cinnamon muffins: A classic autumn combination with warm, bakery-style flavors.
-
Peppermint Privateer – Peppermint Mocha + dark chocolate: Rich chocolate and cool peppermint make a natural match for a chilly afternoon.
-
Compass Rose Blend (medium-dark) roast coffee + oatmeal cookies: Simple, satisfying, and easy to pack for a weekend sail.
-
Cleat Hitch Chamomile Ginger tea + honey biscuits: A soothing combination for winding down after a busy day on the water.
-
Rolling Hitch Butterfly Blue iced tea + tropical fruit: A colorful reminder that adventure doesn't have to end when summer does.
For longer passages, choose treats that store well, create minimal mess, and fit your crew's preferences. Individually wrapped snacks, sturdy baked goods, and reusable containers can all make galley life easier.
And if someone volunteers to handle the snacks, perhaps don't ask too many questions. A well-fed crew is a happy crew.
🌿 New Artisan Teas Join the Crew
Coffee may get the early-morning watch, but artisan tea deserves its own place in the galley. This season, we're highlighting two distinctive blends for very different kinds of moments.
Cleat Hitch Chamomile Ginger
Sometimes the best part of an adventure is finally tying up and slowing down.
Cleat Hitch Chamomile Ginger combines organic chamomile, organic ginger root, and organic lemon myrtle in a soothing herbal blend with notes of honey, warming ginger, and bright lemon.
Brew for 5 - 10 minutes at 212°F, using 2 grams per 12 ounces of water. It's a comforting choice for a quiet evening aboard, a peaceful morning at anchor, or any moment when your schedule could use a little less hurry and a little more harbor.
Tie up, slow down, and enjoy the calm ...your mug has found its cleat.
Rolling Hitch Butterfly Blue
Who says fall drinks have to be brown, beige, or pumpkin-colored?
Rolling Hitch Butterfly Blue brings a splash of tropical color to the tea lineup, blending organic butterfly pea flower with delicate White Peony tea, pineapple, peach, lemon myrtle, and orange.
Expect bright notes of lemon, peach, and pineapple, with a naturally eye-catching blue hue that looks especially striking over ice.
Brew 2 grams per 12 ounces of water at 175°F for 3–4 minutes, then pour over ice for a refreshing change of course.
It's fruity, colorful, and a cheerful reminder that there's still room for a little sunshine ...even when the mornings turn brisk.
Grab the helm, pour a glass, and let your taste buds chase the horizon.
