Crimson Current - Kenya Nyeri Gura Peaberry [Navigator's Reserve: October 2026]

Chart a Course for Kenya’s Bright Side ⚓☕

Some coffees arrive quietly. Others sail into port flying every flag they have.

Meet Crimson Current - Kenya Nyeri Gura Peaberry, the latest discovery in the Skipper’s Remedy® Navigator’s Reserve ...and our limited-edition, coffee of the month October 2026.

This is not your "set it on autopilot and forget about it" coffee.

Crimson Current is bright, fruit-forward, wonderfully complex, and ready to make some waves.

A New Current on the Coffee Chart

Crimson Current is a single-origin coffee from Kenya’s renowned Nyeri County, where approximately 500 smallholder producers deliver their carefully harvested coffee cherries to the Gura Factory.

The coffee grows high above sea level (between 1,700 and 1,890 meters) in mineral-rich volcanic soil. And that altitude shows up in the cup.

Our Medium-Light Roast brings an energetic combination notes of: Blackberry, Kiwi, Mango, Mint, White Wine

First comes the juicy brightness of blackberry and kiwi. Then the cup opens into ripe mango sweetness, followed by a refreshing hint of mint and a clean, white-wine-like brightness.

It's complex without being complicated. In other words: a lot is happening here, and we're perfectly happy to keep exploring.

What Exactly Is a Peaberry?

Here's where Crimson Current gets a little unusual.

Most coffee cherries develop two seeds inside ...the familiar flat-sided coffee beans we're accustomed to seeing.

But occasionally, a cherry develops just one small, rounded seed. That's a peaberry.

During processing, these peaberries are separated from the rest of the harvest. Their distinctive shape and concentrated character have made them particularly interesting to coffee enthusiasts looking for a lively, expressive cup.

Think of it as the coffee world's version of a smaller crew with a surprisingly big personality. Small bean. Big adventure.

High Elevation. Volcanic Soil. Serious Character.

Crimson Current brings together four respected Kenyan coffee varieties:

  • SL28
  • SL34
  • Ruiru 11
  • Batian

These coffees are grown in the highlands of Nyeri County, where the combination of elevation and mineral-rich volcanic soil provides an exceptional environment for coffee cultivation.

But great coffee doesn't simply grow on a tree and report for duty. There's plenty of work between the coffee cherry and your morning mug.

From Cherry to Cup

At the Gura Factory, freshly harvested cherries go through a carefully managed process designed to preserve clarity and character. The cherries are: Fermented → Washed → Soaked → Density Sorted → Slowly Dried

After processing, the coffee is dried on raised beds for approximately two to three weeks. That attention to detail helps create the vibrant acidity, clarity, and layered fruit character that make high-elevation Kenyan coffees so distinctive. It's a reminder that what's in your cup is the result of a long journey involving farmers, processors, careful sorting, patience, and plenty of craftsmanship.

We think that's worth savoring.

Why Crimson Current?

We named this coffee Crimson Current because it captures something about the experience. There's the deep berry character. There's the tropical fruit. There's the refreshing lift of mint.

And then there's the current ....something moving, energetic, and impossible to ignore. It feels like a coffee with somewhere to go. Fortunately, its next destination is your mug.

Your October Coffee of the Month Has Arrived

As part of the Navigator’s Reserve, Crimson Current is our limited-edition, coffee of the month October 2026.

Navigator’s Reserve is our opportunity to venture beyond the everyday route and discover coffees that give our crew something new to explore.

Every month brings a different origin.

A different producer story.
A different flavor profile.
A different point on the coffee chart.

And this month, we're heading to Nyeri County, Kenya.

How We’d Brew It

With a coffee this bright and expressive, we'd keep the brewing approach relatively simple.

A pour-over or French press can let those fruit-forward characteristics shine, while a clean drip brew makes an easygoing morning cup.

And because this is a Medium-Light Roast, we'd encourage you to slow down and actually taste the coffee. Look for the progression: Blackberry → Kiwi → Mango → Mint → White Wine

Coffee tasting doesn't need to be complicated.

Take a sip.
Let it cool a little.
Take another.
See what changes.

That's part of the adventure.

Chart Your Course

Crimson Current is a reminder of why we created Navigator’s Reserve in the first place.

Coffee can take you places.
You don't need a passport.
You don't need to pack a sea bag.

And you definitely don't need to explain to anyone why you're standing on the dock at sunrise holding a French press.

You just need a good cup.

This October, chart a course for Kenya with Crimson Current - Kenya Nyeri Gura Peaberry. Single-Origin. Medium/Light Roast. Bright. Fruit-forward. Wonderfully complex.

A little blackberry.
A little mango.
A hint of mint.
A splash of adventure.

Crimson Current: bright coffee, bold character, favorable winds. ⚓☕
