There’s something special about gathering with fellow coffee enthusiasts where the air is filled with aroma, curiosity, and a shared respect for the craft. At World of Coffee San Diego 2026, hosted by the Specialty Coffee Association, we had the opportunity to do just that ...and on Saturday, we stepped into one of the most rewarding experiences of the weekend: a guided coffee cupping with representatives from Indonesia.
For us at Skipper’s Remedy®, this wasn’t just about tasting coffee. It was about deepening our connection to origin, process, and the people behind every cup.

A Voyage Through Indonesia’s Coffee Regions
Indonesia is one of the most diverse coffee-producing regions in the world, and this cupping showcased just how wide that spectrum can be. Each origin offered a distinct expression of terroir ...shaped by island geography, volcanic soil, climate, and processing traditions.
We explored coffees from:
- Sulawesi Toraja: Known for its deep body and complex, layered character, this cup delivered earthy richness balanced with subtle spice and structure.
- Java: A classic profile with smooth body and clean finish, offering a refined and balanced cup that feels both traditional and timeless.
- Jambi (Sumatra): Bold and full-bodied, with the signature Indonesian depth—earthy, intense, and grounding.
- Bali: Bright yet balanced, with a softer profile that highlighted sweetness and approachability.
- Pagar Alam (Sumatra): A standout for its intensity and complexity, offering a rich, syrupy body with lingering depth.
- Luwak: Perhaps the most talked-about, offering a uniquely smooth and low-acid experience, sparking conversation as much as curiosity.
Each cup told a different story... and together, they painted a vivid picture of Indonesia's role in the global coffee landscape.

The Art of Cupping: Tasting with Intention
Cupping is more than just tasting ...it’s a disciplined, sensory evaluation. From fragrance and aroma to acidity, body, and finish, every step is intentional. It’s about slowing down and letting the coffee speak for itself.
As we moved from cup to cup, what stood out most was the range ...from bright and balanced to deep and earthy. It reinforced something we often share with our crew: coffee isn’t one note... it’s a full composition.

Why This Matters
Experiences like this shape how we source, roast, and share coffee at Skipper’s Remedy®.
They remind us that behind every bean is a network of farmers, processors, exporters, and communities ...each contributing to the final cup. They deepen our appreciation for transparency, traceability, and ethical sourcing, and they inspire us to continue seeking out coffees that reflect both quality and story.
Bringing It Back to the Mug
As we return from San Diego, we carry these insights forward ...into future selections, seasonal releases, and the coffees we bring to your galley.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about what’s in your mug ...it’s about where it came from, how it was crafted, and the journey it took to get there.
So the next time you take a sip, consider the voyage behind it.
