Cask & Current Guatemala - Whiskey-Barrel Aged

At first light, when the horizon blurs into a soft line of silver and blue, the crew gathers for a ritual that feels as steady as the tide. The kettle hums, the grinder turns, and the aroma rises ...bright, warm, and quietly commanding. This is Skipper's Remedy® Cask & Current Guatemala – Whiskey Barrel-Aged, a voyage captured in a cup, crafted from single-origin coffee from Guatemala and guided by a patient hand.

Below deck, where craftsmanship matters as much as the wind above, the story deepens.

The Whiskey Barrel-Aged Process

Each batch begins with a whiskey barrel that has just completed its former duty ...emptied, but still rich with character. There's no whiskey added here, only what the oak remembers. The barrel is meticulously prepared: sterilized with hot water and steam, then gassed to ensure a clean, aseptic environment worthy of specialty-grade beans.

Once dried to a precise moisture content, green coffee beans are carefully loaded into the barrel’s hollow core. There, over the course of at least 30 days, the beans rest and transform. The porous wood breathes into them ...subtle notes of charred oak, a whisper of the barrel’s past, and a trace of the non-alcoholic "devil's cut" held deep within the stave.

Time does the rest.

When the beans emerge, they carry something new ...an added dimension that doesn't mask their origin, but enhances it. The result is a cup that feels both grounded and exploratory: the bright clarity of Guatemala meeting the quiet depth of oak-aged refinement.

No additives. No shortcuts. Just patience, precision, and a respect for the journey.

Because at Skipper's Remedy®, every great coffee tells a story ...and this one sails a little further than most.

Guatemala: Strength in Simplicity
From the highlands of Huehuetenango, over 400 family-owned farms contribute to a coffee that is both humble and exceptional. Grown at high altitudes in mineral-rich soils, these coffees develop clarity and sweetness that shine through every roast.

With limited infrastructure, producers partner with centralized mills to ensure quality processing, while organizations like CoffeeCare support education, nutrition, and community wellbeing.

This is coffee shaped by resilience ...simple in means, extraordinary in result.
