Navigator's Reserve limited-edition for July 2026: Southern Crossing - Papua New Guinea, Paraka Koi Natural

Some voyages follow familiar trade routes. Others head boldly toward horizons that remain wonderfully unexplored. Our latest Navigator's Reserve release does exactly that.

Southern Crossing - Papua New Guinea, Paraka Koi Natural is our limited-edition, coffee of the month for July 2026 and an extraordinary single-origin from Papua New Guinea: Paraka Koi Natural that reminds us why adventure (and exceptional coffee) often begin far from the beaten path.

This is not merely a new destination in your mug. It's an expedition.

Into the Highlands of Ulya

High above the Waghi Valley, in the rugged landscapes of Ulya, Jiwaka Province, coffee thrives at elevations of 1,500-1,700 MASL.

Here, Bourbon, Arusha, and Typica varieties flourish in fertile volcanic loam soils, producing coffees that are vibrant, expressive, and unmistakably unique.

Supported by Ulya Mill, small farming families cultivate just a few acres each, often relying entirely on family labor, traditional methods, and organic inputs. There are no sprawling estates here ...only dedication, patience, and generations of local knowledge.

In other words: exactly the sort of people we'd trust to share a sunrise coffee watch with.

Naturally Adventurous

Roast Level: Medium. Processed as a full natural and dried in the sun, this coffee celebrates the fruit itself, allowing every cherry to contribute its complete character to the final cup. The result?

Profile Notes:

  • Blueberry
  • Plum
  • Spiced apple cider
  • Rose
  • Nutmeg
  • Chocolate

It's a flavor voyage all its own.

One sip brings bright berries. Another reveals warming spice. Somewhere along the journey, delicate florals emerge before settling into a rich chocolate finish that lingers like the last light of sunset over open water.

Frankly, if coffee could keep a captain's log, this one would need extra pages.

The Challenge of Getting Great Coffee to Port

Papua New Guinea remains one of the world's most fascinating (and challenging) coffee origins. The terrain is remote. Infrastructure is limited. Roads occasionally seem to have entered into a mutual agreement with gravity to make life interesting.

For many producers, post-harvest resources extend little beyond careful picking and meticulous sorting. Yet extraordinary coffee continues to emerge. That's where Monpi Coffee Exporters enters the story.

Building Better Trade Winds

Supporting more than 1,000 coffee producers throughout the Waghi Valley, Monpi has invested heavily in centralized infrastructure that empowers smallholder farmers without requiring each family to purchase costly equipment.

Their innovations include:

  • A centralized wet mill near Ulya
  • Local storage facilities
  • Transportation logistics
  • Expanded drying structures
  • Technical farm support
  • Income diversification programs
  • Quality control systems for international export

This means farmers can focus on what they do best: Growing remarkable coffee.

And they are doing precisely that. The increasing quality coming from Papua New Guinea is attracting roasters across the globe. Present company enthusiastically included.

Precision at Every Step

Monpi's centralized processing approach combines community support with meticulous quality standards. After delivery to the mill:

  • Cherries are floated to remove underripe and damaged seeds.
  • Lots are carefully dried to ideal moisture levels.
  • Additional drying infrastructure ensures consistency.
  • Quality controls monitor water activity and stability.
  • Export preparation connects producers directly with specialty markets.

It's thoughtful craftsmanship meeting modern logistics ...a combination every sailor can appreciate. After all, a beautiful destination still requires a reliable chart and a well-maintained vessel. The same applies to coffee.

Why "Southern Crossing"?

Because the finest journeys often take us somewhere unexpected. Southern Crossing represents more than geography.

It honors:

  • Remote farming communities
  • Generational craftsmanship
  • Innovative partnerships
  • The resilience of small producers
  • The thrill of discovering extraordinary origins

Like any memorable passage, the reward lies not merely in arriving ...but in understanding the story behind the voyage.

A Limited Journey Worth Taking

As a Navigator's Reserve offering, Southern Crossing - Papua New Guinea, Paraka Koi Natural will only be available during July 2026.

And like favorable winds or perfectly timed tides, some opportunities simply cannot be postponed.

So fill your mug. Follow the aroma. Chart a course toward one of coffee's most captivating frontiers.

Because sometimes the greatest discoveries aren't found on maps. They're found somewhere between blueberry, nutmeg, chocolate, and a sunrise worth waking early to witness.
