August is in full swing, the sun is working overtime, and the ocean is looking suspiciously inviting.
Translation: it's time to brew the adventure ...and keep it cold.
For sailors, summer is about long days on the water, warm breezes, spontaneous passages, and finding creative ways to stay cool between watches. And while we're always enthusiastic about a steaming mug of coffee at sunrise, August calls for something a little more refreshing.
Enter: iced coffee, cold brew, and chilled artisan tea.
Because sometimes the best way to enjoy great coffee is to put it over ice and let the afternoon breeze do the rest. Fueled by Wind & Coffee™
🧭 Start With a Compass. End With Coffee.
Every adventure needs a heading. Your compass points toward the next destination. Your coffee points toward breakfast.
At Skipper’s Remedy®, our single-origin specialty coffees make it possible to explore the world one cup at a time. From the highlands of Central America to far-flung coffee-growing regions around the globe, every origin has its own character, climate, altitude, varietals, and story.
Think of your coffee as a culinary compass.
One origin might deliver bright tropical fruit. Another might bring chocolate, caramel, or spice. Different waters. Different landscapes. Different coffee.
Same mission: Brew the Adventure™.
🧊 Meet Your Summer First Mate: Jibing Cold Brew
When temperatures rise, Jibing Cold Brew knows exactly what to do.
This medium roast was crafted specifically for cold brew, with tasting notes of smooth chocolate, toffee, and floral tones. It's refreshing, mellow, and remarkably easy to enjoy on a hot summer day.
And unlike a questionable docking maneuver, cold brew rewards patience.
Our Favorite Cold Brew Setup
For a rich cold brew concentrate, we like a 1:8 ratio:
1 gram of coarse-ground coffee to 8 grams of cold water.
Combine, steep for approximately 12-24 hours, then strain. Dilute the concentrate with water or milk before serving over ice.
Add ice. Add sunshine. Add a comfortable cockpit seat. Congratulations, you've officially upgraded your afternoon watch!
🍋 Iced Coffee: The Fast Lane
Don't have 12 hours to wait? No problem. Brew your favorite Skipper’s Remedy® coffee using your preferred method, let it cool, and pour it over ice.
For an extra summer-friendly twist, try: Iced Coffee + Milk + Simple Syrup
Or go nautical with: Iced Coffee + Coconut Milk + A Touch of Vanilla
Or keep it beautifully simple: Cold Coffee + Ice = Problem Solved
We're not here to overcomplicate things. You're sailing. There are already enough lines to untangle.
🌿 Don't Forget the Tea
Coffee may be our first mate, but artisan tea deserves some time on watch, too.
Cold-brewed tea is an excellent option for hot-weather sailing because it's refreshing, easy to prepare ahead of time, and wonderfully versatile.
Brew it cold overnight, pour over ice, and add citrus, fresh mint, berries, or a splash of sparkling water.
Suddenly that ordinary afternoon beverage has developed a rather impressive cruising résumé.
🌊 Single-Origin Coffee Is a Voyage of Discovery
One of the best things about specialty coffee is that the adventure doesn't require leaving the dock.
Open a bag from a new origin and you're already somewhere else.
Maybe it's a misty mountain farm in Honduras.
Maybe it's volcanic highlands in Costa Rica.
Maybe it's a remote coffee-growing region halfway around the world.
Each single-origin coffee gives you another opportunity to taste the influence of place, altitude, soil, varietal, processing, and farming tradition.
Your compass tells you where you're going. Your coffee tells you where you've been.
⛵ August Mission: Stay Cool. Sail Far. Drink Well.
This summer, don't settle for ordinary coffee just because the thermometer has opinions.
Pack the cooler. Stow your coffee. Bring the ice. And keep Jibing Cold Brew close at hand.
Whether you're cruising the coastline, racing around the buoys, anchored in a quiet cove, or simply enjoying a marina morning, August is the perfect month to explore new origins and experiment with refreshing ways to brew them.
Because the best adventures don't always require a change of coordinates.
Sometimes they just require a good cup of coffee, a little imagination, and somewhere beautiful to enjoy it.
