Finca Amistad Passage: A Journey of Stewardship, Community, and Exceptional Coffee

Finca Amistad Passage: A Journey of Stewardship, Community, and Exceptional Coffee

Some coffees tell the story of a place. Others tell the story of the people who cultivate it. Finca Amistad Passage - Costa Rica tells both.

Introducing Finca Amistad Passage - Costa Rica, our Navigator's Reserve and Limited Edition for Coffee of the Month June 2026 ...a remarkable Single-Origin from Coto Brus, Puntarenas, Costa Rica that captures the spirit of exploration, sustainability, and craftsmanship in every cup.

From the moment the first aroma rises from the brew, this coffee invites you on a voyage through the lush mountains of southern Costa Rica, where generations of dedication have created something truly extraordinary.

A Coffee Rooted in Costa Rica

Grown by third-generation coffee producer Roberto Montero at Finca Amistad, this exceptional lot thrives at elevations between 1,200 - 1,500 MASL in rich volcanic loam soils. Cultivated from Caturra and Catuai varietals, the coffee benefits from ideal growing conditions that bring clarity, balance, and complexity to the cup.

Carefully fully washed and sun dried, the coffee reflects the precision and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of Costa Rican specialty coffee.

Roast Level: Medium

Tasting Notes

  • Sweet berry brightness
  • Light citrus herbal notes
  • Smooth, creamy texture

The result is a cup that feels both vibrant and comforting ...a coffee equally suited for a sunrise departure from the marina or a quiet evening reflecting on the day's adventures.

A Legacy of Preservation

What makes Finca Amistad truly remarkable extends far beyond the coffee itself.

In the early 1900s, Roberto Montero's grandfather acquired approximately 10,000 hectares of land in the region. Over time, an extraordinary commitment to conservation emerged. Today, 97% of that original property has been dedicated to forest preservation, including 6,000 hectares returned to the government of Costa Rica to help create and protect La Amistad International Park, the largest natural reserve in Central America.

Of the land that remains under family stewardship, only a small portion is devoted to coffee production. The majority remains forested, providing habitat for countless species of wildlife while preserving one of Central America's most important ecological treasures.

It's a philosophy that recognizes coffee and conservation can thrive together.

Coffee with Community at Its Core

Roberto's commitment extends beyond the environment to the people who make each harvest possible.

Located near the border with Panama, Hacienda la Amistad welcomes indigenous seasonal workers and their families who travel to the farm during harvest season. Roberto ensures they have access to housing and free medical care while they work.

His impact continues throughout the local community as well. More than 100 full-time jobs are provided through both coffee production and the farm's year-round dried fruit operation. Annual employee celebrations recognize the contributions of the workforce, while school supplies are distributed to employees' children before each school year begins.

These efforts reflect a simple but powerful belief: exceptional coffee begins with investing in people.
